I'm on the move travelling full time these days, and normally have projector/laptop/speaker.

As far as DLNA goes, I can use the "play to" function flawlessly, which is great for music.īut what if I want to stream the audio of a game or movie to this device? In the case of my XW-SMA1, it's a blank device, there isn't a menu/navigation tool or anything to work with. Which is all well and good if your DLNA client has the ability to browse a DLNA server. I've fiddled with the Asset UPnP tool (and Jamcast), and understand its mechanism for getting all local live audio to a wifi speaker via DLNA. I'm attempting to achieve the same sort of thing as the OP, essentially utilize the speaker as the default audio device for my (laptop). Nice little unit, great quality sound for its size and price. So I've just got a hold of the Pioneer XW-SMA1 Speaker. Love the AVS forums, this is my first post, but hope to be able to contribute more in the future. If anyone tries out Jamcast, keep us posted.

My first thoughts are: using a PC based solution with no feedback from the WDTV, the speeds of reading the compressed audio file (one from a disc and the other read and sent over the network), decoding at different internal hardware speeds, and playing over different sound systems or audio cards will result in slightly non-synchronous playback. I do not know anything about Jamcast, but I am heading to that website now. I don't expect to see that show up in devices in the near future. There is a new DLNA spec coming out soon that supposedly supports Tru2Way which will add this sort of talking back and forth functionality. WMP (and Twonky and J.River, etc) can "Play To" another device and even maintain multiple music streams, but they are not in sync. It's tricky because networks are not reliable at the bit level: packets are lost, etc, and the devices on both end have to talk to each other in order to maintain synchronous playback. Those systems have smart peripherials that can talk to each other and maintain sync over a network. If that is correct, the only systems that I know of that can do that are Sonos, Squeezebox, etc. It sounds like you are wanting to play and synchronize the music coming out of your computer with the music coming out of your WDTV. IMO, you need to choose one controller/one device (Live+ or PC or Sonos) to output audio to one or all rooms of the house at the same time. If using the PC as the music player/controller: Live+ does not have an audio input (like an AVR) so you can not receive the audio feed from the PC that way.Īudio distribution thru the home can be done in many ways, but what you are suggesting is kinda' weird. If using the WDTV Live+ as the music player/controller: The PC could receive an audio input from the WDTV Live+ via audio outputs (1) SPDIF Optical or (2) Analog RCA L/R plugs -only if your PC sound card supports those input types But the physical distance between the two devices (PC and Live+) might prevent this connection? Do you want to play music on your PC -and- at the same exact time have the WDTV Live+ (in a different room?) playing the same music at the same time? Cool beans man never thought of that.
